Four-armed brass candelabrum, cast brass (ottone fuso) in Empire style from the early 20th century, France, 31 cm tall with a 31 cm span and weighing 1.5 kg.
Description from the seller
Important four-flame brass candelabrum with putto – France, Second Empire (1900-1925) – Modèle Déposé
⸻
Description
Refined and elegant four-flame brass candelabrum, made in France in the second half of the 19th century, the Second Empire period (circa 1900–1925).
The model features a scenographic and harmonious composition, with a central figure of a putto in a dynamic pose, finely modeled according to the nineteenth-century academic taste, a clear echo of Rococo models of the 18th century reinterpreted in the Napoleonic era.
The four sinuous arms unfold with wide naturalistic volutes, enriched by raised foliate elements and integrated drip trays.
The circular base, of substantial diameter, is finely decorated with chased vegetal motifs, coherent with French ornamental production of the period.
The whole fully expresses the taste of the Luigi XV/Luigi XVI revival typical of the Second Empire, with a balance between decorative richness and architectural proportion.
⸻
Technique and material
Brass cast in a multipiece mold, subsequently finished and chased.
Central screw assembly typical of 19th-century production.
Present marking under the base: “MOU-DEP” (Modèle Déposé), French indication of a deposited model, consistent with production in the second half of the 19th-20th century.
The patina is natural, with light oxidation in recesses that enhance the modeling.
