Important pair of hand-painted pink opaline glass lamps in the Luigi Filippo antique style, Italian, dating to circa 1850–1900, with a brass measuring jaw and a circular base, standing about 44 cm high with a 15 cm base and overall dimensions of 29 cm depth and 16 cm width, in good condition with minor age-related wear and not in working order.
Description from the seller
Important pair of lamps, entirely in pink opaline glass, hand-painted from the mid-1800s in the Luigi Filippo style. They are Italian and differ from the French Napoléon III porcelain ones with a bronze base and the cylindrical gauge. Imposing in size, they stand tall with a height of 44 cm including the stem, 35 cm without. They present a circular base 15 cm wide, domed, 5 cm high. The gold lines at the base have worn down over the years. From here rises the lamp neck, narrow at the bottom with a pressed ring, then widening in the central part. Splendid is the hand-painted front depicting a large flower on blue and white, and above it a bird in the same colors. On the sides there are small flowers as well. The inset houses the kerosene chamber, 22 cm high, including the gauge, with the cylindrical part that goes inside the lamp and the circular top with flower paintings around the entire perimeter. A pair—the two photos are more explicit than words. Considering their age they are in good condition. Only one of the rear parts shows an L-shaped opaline chip which isn’t easily visible. In the photos it is the fourth one. Nothing detracts from the importance of the lamps. Rare to find similar pairs because those from the early 1900s with a bronze base and a single-piece lamp, especially with the printed image, are common; but such opaline pieces with two parts are a rarity. Moreover, they gain value because they are older. Importantly, there is a brass measurer/gauge which indicates these are antique objects. The photos speak more eloquently than words in conveying the beauty of the lamps. They were part of the family palace furnishings, and due to the abundance of objects I am selling many of them instead of keeping them locked in a cabinet so they can have a new life. My ancestors placed great importance on the home and had distinctive objects made, with careful attention to detail. They adapt easily to both classic and modern decor, to be kept as ornaments or electrified to make two lamps. For shipping I use private couriers rather than the post, because it arrives faster and allows for double packaging given the delicacy, and to make communication simpler. Shipping costs vary depending on destination: Europe (zone 1 or 2) such as the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Eastern European countries; zone 3 such as Norway, Malta, and Cyprus; and the rest of the world. Customs duties will be the buyer's responsibility.
