Description from the seller

THE GREAT FIGHT, a vibrant and expressive 70 x 100 cm painting by artist Flavia Delgado. This work takes as its starting point the classical iconography of boxing—the ring, the spotlights, the gloves—to build a direct, forceful image with high visual impact.

The frontal, symmetrical composition recalls the language of advertising posters and of the mid-20th-century boxing cards, where the bout was announced as a major collective event. The empty ring, illuminated by a bank of spotlights, presents itself as a theatrical, almost cinematic stage, awaiting the action. The red gloves hanging in the foreground function as the absolute symbol of the fight: the presence of the match even in its absence.

Graphic treatment — black lines marked, clean color planes and intense contrasts — reinforces the influence of pop and editorial illustration. The red of the gloves dialogues with the vibrant blue of the ring, creating a chromatic tension that anticipates the violence, energy and emotion of the confrontation. The audience, suggested as a compact mass, acts as a backdrop, reinforcing the idea of spectacle and collective pressure.

The work also alludes to cinematic language: the framing recalls a shot preceding the fight, a suspended moment just before the action begins. The absence of the boxers shifts the focus to the space, the object, and the expectation, making the spectator mentally complete the scene.

The embedded text —“FIGHT NIGHT / THE THRILL OF THE FIGHT!”— does not function merely as a title, but as an essential graphic element, a direct heir to the classic poster. The word becomes an image, reinforcing the narrative and promotional character of the work.
LA GRAN PELEA is a painting about pre-fight tension, the ritual of combat, and the fascination with the spectacle of sport. An image that fuses painting, poster art, and illustration to capture the contained emotion of the moment before the punch.

Seller's Story

I present a pictorial work line strongly linked to illustration and artistic poster design. My works combine the language of classic poster art with the plastic freedom of contemporary painting: flat colors, defined contours, direct scenes, and a clear narrative sense. My work dialogues with the tradition of 20th-century poster art, especially with the universe of Art Deco and European and North American advertising posters, where authors like A. M.. Cassandre, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and Leonetto Cappiello used synthetic imagery and color for visual impact. There are also affinities with European comic graphics and the clear line, from Hergé to modern editorial illustration. In my paintings, I depict interiors, architectures, figures, and travel scenes—such as roads, vintage cars, or landscapes—approached from a graphic perspective reminiscent of posters and illustrated books, but transferred to the realm of painting on paper and canvas. I aim for each image to function like a frame or a narrative poster, capable of suggesting a broader story without needing to explain it.
