Description from the seller
Charmingly bound edition in its superb Hetzel publisher's binding, signed by Engel and crowned with a golden globe, these two masterful Jules Verne works are bound together and nicely illustrated with 45 illustrations by L. Benett, including 6 large chromotypography engravings -
The first novel will take you into a thrilling plot. You will follow the escapades of Thomas Roch, a French scientist who has invented a formidable explosive that threatens world peace. Captured by Count d’Artigas, a highwayman, he is taken to the hidden island of Back-Cup, where the count tries to extract his secret. But Roch, driven mad, does not yield. What will be the outcome of this confrontation?
In the second, Jules Verne ventures into a narrative, almost a vaudeville, but all the talent is there, first in the descriptions of 19th-century Algeria. Carried aboard the Argèlès toward Oran and its region, they will visit together; the characters of this story engage in a cross-cutting chase of interest and feelings that will lead to a marriage and an unexpected adoption... -
