Description from the seller
This black-and-white photograph captured in Essaouira is a true masterpiece of minimalism and visual storytelling. The photographer has seized a moment of extraordinary evocative power, where solitude and space meet in a composition that is perfectly controlled.
The image is dominated by an immense textured wall that occupies most of the frame, creating an abstract background of subtle beauty. In the foreground, a person in traditional dress stands out against this surface, their silhouette forming a striking focal point in the right-hand corner of the image. The contrast between the wall's vastness and the subject's smallness tells a universal story about the human condition.
Passionate about photography from a very young age, Ben DAUCHEZ began in the neighborhood studios of La Rochelle. There he acquired all the basics of photography—from classic technique to shooting and retouching, including the darkroom. At 22, freshly graduated, he moved to Paris to perfect his training by becoming a set assistant for the Daguerre studios, Le Petit Oiseau va sortir, and Studio Zéro. He had the good fortune to collaborate with and assist some of the most talented photographers: Bettina RHEIMS, Patrick DEMARCHELIER, Terry RICHARDSON, Ellen VON UNWERTH, Marcus MAM... From certain decisive encounters, beautiful projects and long collaborations emerged, notably with André RAU, Bettina RHEIMS (the sultry INRI exhibition and its eponymous book at Editions Albin Michel) and Peter BEARD (the 2009 Pirelli calendar in Botswana).
His photos have been published, among others, by Condé Nast Editions (French and international), Première, WallPaper, ID, Madame Figaro, Lifestyles, Dandy Magazine... His universe also interests brands with very different identities, for whom he has spearheaded institutional and/or advertising campaigns such as Dior (beauty), L'Oréal, Peugeot, Philip Morris, or Burger King (advertising awarded at Dubai Lynx).
Ben DAUCHEZ has also created numerous portraits of celebrities (IGGY POP, Woody HALLEN, Grace JONES, Jean DUJARDIN, Gilles LELLOUCHE, Olivier MARCHAL, Carole BOUQUET, Charlotte GAINSBOURG, ...) of beauty, of powerful men (Olivier DASSAULT, Jacques SEGUELA...) and of travelers...
This photographic path has since allowed him to freely immortalize the human beauty, aesthetic, and spiritual essence of each personality.
