Description from the seller
With dimensions of 50 x 40 cm, this 2025 oil on canvas painting with a very fine grain is signed on the lower left and comes with a certificate of authenticity; it is shipped stretched on a frame.
It depicts motherhood, the mother—"a mãe" in Portuguese, the artist’s mother tongue—which can be interpreted in a sacred sense or not. The artist leaves it to the viewer to choose their own reading.
It contemplates the mother in all her complexity of joy, of love and also of the pain that accompanies childbirth. The milk flowing from the right breast represents her fertility and her ability to provide for her child’s life.
The artist has worked primarily with the glazing technique, bestowing the work with the delicacy and softness of the colors layered over each other, while avoiding the accumulation of material.
Sandra Chinelate, Brazilian, engages in physical and existential inquiry conducted with the tools of figurative painting. A graduate in literature, and in her childhood a self-taught artist, she moved to Italy and, influenced by her多-socior linguistic gaze, conducts her artistic research with the aim of promoting an encounter among different social subjects, where various ages, skin colors, passions and human uncertainties are contemplated from a strong desire on the part of the artist to exalt their facets, safeguarding her characters from any pre-judgment. Since 2006 she has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows. She works with oil and mixed media on canvas and panel.
