Five-volume set of Montesquieu’s Œuvres complètes, published by Crapelet in French with leather bindings, 1820, edition limitée, including Volumes I–V (Des lois en général to Que les lois que le législateur donne doivent être relatives au principe du gouvernement) in reasonable condition with age, original bookmarks, and accompanying cards.
Description from the seller
Set of 5 ancient books of Montesquieu's Complete Works, published by Crapelet, works dating from 1820.
Books in good condition considering their age.
Bindinged books with cards included as seen in the photos.
These are the five first volumes from the publisher, comprising:
Book I: The Laws in General (492 pages).
Book II: The Laws that Derive Directly from the Nature of Government (460 pages).
Book III: The Principles of the Three Governments (462 pages).
Book IV: That the Laws of Education Must Be Relative to the Principles of Government (664 pages).
Book V: That the Laws the Lawgiver Gives Must Be Relative to the Principle of Government (463 pages).
The pages are slightly yellowed with time but they are not torn, and one can even notice the original bookmarks present...
From the photos one can see that Volume IV is slightly damaged at the top of its binding.
These books are original and truly date from 1820!!!!
I'm parting with them (unfortunately) for financial reasons and I hope they will bring joy to an informed collector, as they have brought me over the past 50 years...
The works will be perfectly protected and insured in value, which explains the amount of shipping fees.
Happy bidding to you...
