Jean Levasseur (1935–2024), a French figurative painter from Le Havre, dedicated his life to celebrating the beauty of maritime landscapes. With a vivid palette and a warm touch, he captured the changing light of the Norman coasts, from Le Havre’s piers to the beaches of Deauville.
Settled in the countryside but always turned toward the sea, he painted the shores as one recalls a memory: with sincerity, poetry, and a deep connection to the natural elements.
His paintings tell of daily life by the water’s edge, the moving skies and the untamed tides.
Having died in April 2024 at the age of 89, Jean Levasseur leaves behind a sensitive and luminous body of work, praised by maritime-art enthusiasts for its authenticity and expressive strength.
