Description from the seller

Beautiful work by Thomas van Heck.

Oil paint on canvas.

Groothoofd Dordrecht.

Thomas van Heck [1910-2006] was born in Dordrecht and began drawing and painting at a young age. We can call him the last Dordrecht Impressionist and Master of the Biesbosch. In his early period he painted a lot in his hometown. Preferably in winter. As a result, much of old Dordrecht is captured, spots that no longer exist for years. Later he wandered on his boat "de Schilder" with his wife Neeltje through the Biesbosch for about 40 years. This charmed him so much that some even called him the Biesbosch painter. His exhibitions have always drawn many visitors. He did not want to be called an artist, but a hard worker. Yet he was both, a remarkable man with a remarkable gift. Thomas van Heck lived with his wife Neeltje on his boat "de Schilder" from March to October every year. He not only fixed all the seasons in the Biesbosch on canvas, but also the atmosphere at every moment of the day. The creeks, the woodmen, the polders, the fishermen and the polder landscapes—Thomas van Heck painted and drew them all for the future. He also made clay figurines of the Biesbosch. Into very old age, the development of painting toward nature continued. In part due to his use of color and his passion, his work stands out from his contemporaries and fellow painters. His work is notable for a distinctive way of painting. In memory of him, his splendid legacy, as he left it, remains in the museum in Brasschaat, Belgium. It was his clear wish to convey his feelings to others through his work.

Painting with light craquelé. Frame in good condition.

Note: the painting is not sold to the USA due to government regulations.
