Louis Vuitton - sac plat - Handbag

LV returns to the scene with the Celebrating Monogram project, entrusting its most classic bags in monogram canvas to acclaimed artists and designers who reinterpret the logoed print of the French house. This time it's Rei Kawakubo.

The designer became acquainted with Vuitton bags through the maison's first store in Japan in 1978 and since then has appreciated their allure, which today she aims to subvert with a very personal approach.

The designer applies the refined yet unconventional aesthetic that also characterizes Comme des Garçons, of which she was the founder. The model she chose to renew is the Sac Plat, the most streamlined bag among Vuitton's collections. The designer has literally perforated it with large asymmetrical holes.

A radical and very particular approach, one must say, especially because the holes are real and you can see through them. Inside the bag a canvas pouch has been provided to hold objects and prevent them from falling through the holes.

The idea behind this creation is to break with the classic monogram schemes, which is shattered in search of something new and different while starting from a traditional and iconic piece.
