Description from the seller
Large Chinese Blue & White Porcelain Vase – Floral & Bird Decor – Early 20th Century – 31 cm
Elegant Chinese blue and white porcelain vase, dating to the early 20th century (circa 1900–1920).
This finely proportioned baluster-shaped vase is decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a refined floral composition featuring a chrysanthemum bloom, leafy branches, a bird in flight and delicately painted insects (dragonflies). The decorative borders at the rim and foot are executed in traditional stylised foliage patterns.
The base shows a double blue circle, typical for export porcelain of the late Qing / early Republic period. The vase is unmarked, which is common for pieces produced for the export market at the beginning of the 20th century.
The decoration reflects traditional Chinese symbolism:
Chrysanthemum: longevity and perseverance
Bird: harmony and happiness
Dragonfly: lightness and summer
The painting is executed in rich cobalt tones with good contrast and elegant brushwork
Early 20th century (circa 1900–1920), late Qing / early Republic period.
Dimensions
Height: approx. 31 cm
Top diameter: approx. 9 cm
Foot diameter: approx. 10 cm
In good overall condition with normal age-related wear.
There is an oval spot where the glaze is missing and damaged. I think there was a baking error
See the photos; they are part of the description.
Minor firing imperfections and wear to the foot rim consistent with age.
