Description from the seller

Wiener Bronze – Anthropomorphic Traveling Bird

Exceptional cold-painted polychrome bronze figurine depicting an anthropomorphic bird walking, holding a cane and carrying a hiking backpack on its back.

This work fully embodies the tradition of Wiener Bronzen (Vienna Bronzes), Austrian production from the late 19th century renowned for its humanized animal subjects and its delicate humor.

The modelling is exceptionally refined: long curved beak, expressive gaze, green polychrome jacket, trousers and rolled bag accompanied by a textured basket.

Technical characteristics
• Non-magnetic bronze (old copper alloy)
• Original cold-paint polychromy with coherent wear
• Ancient assembly with visible rivets beneath the base
• Workshop numbering engraved: model No. 2544
• Internal assembly number or inscription under the thigh difficult to decipher
• Even, ancient patina, not restored
• Original rectangular base

Dimensions & Dating
Height: 6.5 cm without the base
Base width: about 4.5 cm

Dating: circa 1890–1910
Origin: Austria

A very fine authentic example of late 19th-century Viennese aesthetics. A cabinet-of-curiosities piece or for a specialized collection, sought after for its narrative character and timeless charm.
