AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Since its stills were turned off in 2000, Hanyu has become one of japan's most sought after singles malts. An economic recession at the turn of the millenium forced the distillery to close its doors, and the remaining casks of the unblended whisky stock (around 400) were purchased by Venture Whisky, a firm established by the Hanyu Distillery founder's grandson (Ichiro Akuto) in 2004 when Hanyu was finally dismantled.

It is within this stock, which covers the period 1985-2000, that the famous range of "Playing Cards Series" was created (52 singles casks of all ages and of which a complete set is close to a million euros!). And by 2005, Ichiro Akuto started selling a large number of singles casks to his favourite customers (La Maison du Whisky, The Nectar of the Daily Dram, La Part des Anges...just to name a few), bottled his first single casks under the Ichiro's Malt label and thereby brought his dream to life by building his own distillery : Chichibu.

This single cask bottling of Hanyu comes from that amazing single malts stock ! Distilled in 2000 and bottled by Number One Drinks in 2012 at 58.2%abv for La Maison du Whisky in France. This Chibidaru cask finish (similar to a quarter cask that enhances complexity) released only 160 bottles. A RARITY IN JAPANESE SINGLE MALT HISTORY.
