Art Deco Uranium Glass Bowl 'Brussels' – August Walther & Söhne – circa 1930
Description
A beautiful, authentic Art Deco bowl made of uranium glass, model 'Brussels'. This iconic design was produced by the renowned German glass factory August Walther & Söhne (Ottendorf-Okrilla).
The bowl is finished in the characteristic 'annagreen', which provides a spectacular fluorescent effect under UV light (blacklight) due to the addition of a small amount of uranium oxide.
Features of this object:
• Design: Typical Art Deco form language with a geometric pattern of concentric circles ('bubbles') and three stylized, sleek fins/feet that converge toward the center.
• Optics: The bowl has beautiful light refraction and the characteristic bright green color that collectors seek so much.
• Provenance: Germany, listed in Walther's catalog (1934).
Condition report
The bowl is in pristine condition. No flea bites, chips, or limescale. The glass is clear and the mold seams are sharp, indicating an early press of high quality.
