Rafa López presents ¿Qué comemos hoy? - XXL, an original diptych artwork of two 73 × 73 cm modules (total 73 × 146 cm), created in 2020, executed in mixed media (acrylic, spray, marker, ink) on canvas, hand-signed and in excellent condition, from Spain.
Description from the seller
Title: “What do we eat today?” (2020)
Original, unique work.
Mixed media (acrylic, spray, marker, ink) on canvas.
Diptych format: composed of two modules of 73 x 73 cm each.
Total size: 73 x 146 cm.
Year: 2020.
In "What do we eat today?", Rafa López uses the diptych format to fragment and, at the same time, expand a everyday narrative brought into the realm of the fantastic. The title, a trivial and domestic question, is transformed by his brush into an explosion of visual stimuli that question consumption and identity in the age of information overload.
Artwork analysis:
The composition is a vibrant exercise in Pop Surrealism and Neoexpressionism. Since it is a two-module diptych (73x73 cm each), the work generates an internal dialogue between the two pieces. The viewer can appreciate how gestural strokes and color masses flow from one canvas to the other, maintaining absolute visual coherence while allowing a dual reading.
Icons suggesting food, organic figures, and elements of popular imagination intertwine in a "gourmet chaos" full of energy. Technically, the piece stands out for its use of fluorescent colors, bold contrasts, and a rich layering achieved through the use of spray and marker to define almost calligraphic details over the acrylic.
Logistics and shipping:
Due to its format, the work is delivered unframed (professional packaging, rolled in a high-strength transport tube). This method is the safest for international shipping of canvases, ensuring the paint does not suffer tensions along the journey. As two identical square pieces, mounting on wooden stretchers is straightforward and allows the collector to lightly play with the separation between the two modules according to aesthetic preference, though a separation of 2 to 3 cm is recommended.
The canvases include additional painted margins to allow a perfect mounting, giving continuity to the image at the edges.
Signature and Certification:
Both pieces are linked as a single artwork. Hand-signed on the lower left edge and on the back. Includes the Artist’s Certificate of Authenticity.
