The painting presents a powerful and provocative image: a religious figure, iconographically close to that of a nun, depicted in a moment of intimate and almost rebellious humanity. The vibrant halo above the head contrasts sharply with the lit cigarette between the lips, creating a visual bridge between spiritual perfection and earthly fragility.
The work explores the duality of the soul. It represents that thin boundary where dogma meets desire, and where holiness must contend with human nature. It is a reflection on the “pause” from social and spiritual expectations: even under the veil of perfection (or devotion), there exists an individual with their shadows, their vices, and their need to breathe. The smoke of the cigarette thus becomes a modern incense, less ritualized and more visceral.

This work is not the result of a single gesture, but of a fusion between innovation and artistic sensitivity.

The piece was developed starting from a conceptual draft generated through Artificial Intelligence, used to explore ideal volumes and lights. Subsequently, it was refined and elaborated through mixed digital techniques, layering textures that recall classic canvas and working on the details of the lace and the softened light to give depth and material realism.
