Description from the seller

Important textbook of early medicine - RARE VENETIAN EDITION!

Laurentii Heisteri, Compendium medicinae practicae, cui praemissa est De medicinae mechanicae praestantia dissertatio.

Venice, Simon Occhi, 1759.

Heister (1683–1758), one of the most significant German-speaking anatomists and clinicians of the 18th century, sums up in this compendium his practical medicine; preceding is a programmatic treatise on the usefulness of the “mechanical medicine.” The work offers in concise, systematic form the diagnosis and therapy of the most important internal diseases from the perspective of the early Enlightenment and was used across Europe as a textbook.

The book is in superb condition. No loose pages, the binding is firm. Contemporary leather binding with age-appropriate signs of wear. Only light browning of the pages, no wormholes.

Ideal for collectors of medical-history literature, for physicians with an interest in the history of their profession, or as a decorative and substantively engaging piece for a library with a focus on medicine/Enlightenment.
