Harmonie végétale, oil on canvas landscape from Spain dating to 1930–1940, in the Catalan post-impressionist style, original edition and sold with a frame.
Description from the seller
Interesting oil on canvas of a Mediterranean garden framed within a Catalan post-impressionist language, with clear affinities to the landscape tradition developed in Catalonia during the first half of the 20th century.
The composition represents a lush garden with stately architecture partly covered by vegetation, dominated by an exuberant mass of trees and a luminous atmosphere characteristic of the Mediterranean landscape. The artist structures the scene through successive planes that generate spatial depth, highlighting the interaction between architecture, vegetation and light.
From a stylistic point of view, the work presents traits typical of Catalan post-impressionism:
Visible, fragmented brushwork in the treatment of foliage.
Volumetric construction through color rather than through linear drawing.
Vibrant use of greens, blues and ochres with strong luminous presence.
Atmospheric and decorative sensibility close to the Catalan landscape tradition linked to the surroundings of Joaquim Mir and to noucentista landscape art.
The sky is worked with loose and impasto brushwork, generating movement and chromatic vibration. The vegetation shows dynamic execution that adds texture and depth, while the architecture introduces compositional balance.
The work conveys serenity and a Mediterranean character, with a clear aesthetic intention that is more interpretative than descriptive.
Technique
Oil on canvas.
Condition
General state in line with works of this nature and chronology. It presents slight punctual losses of paint layer, typical of age, not significantly affecting the overall reading of the work. The frame shows signs of having suffered woodworm in the past, currently treated and inactive.
Frame
The frame will be sent solely as a gift.
It is not part of the monetary value of the work and its condition or conservation during transport is not guaranteed.
