Description from the seller
Title: “From When Parrots (B/W)” (2019)
Original work, unique.
Mixed media (acrylic, marker, ink) on canvas.
Format: 47 x 73 cm.
Year: 2019.
In "From When Parrots", Rafa López invites us on an introspective journey into memory and nostalgia. The work, executed in an elegant and sober black-and-white scale, functions as an album of memories where forms interlace to evoke the imagination of times past.
Analysis of the work:
The composition is a key piece of his Pop Surrealist facet. In this canvas, the artist performs a visual survey of cartoons and the iconography of his childhood, rescuing figures that seem to inhabit the collective subconscious. By removing color, López centers all the strength in the line and the silhouette, allowing the viewer to identify familiar elements amid the neo-expressionist chaos.
It is a work that plays with pareidolia: among spray stains and the precise strokes of the marker, emergent forms transport us to afternoons of television and games, reinterpreted under a contemporary, urban, and sophisticated aesthetic.
Technique and style:
Despite its 47 x 73 cm format, the piece has enormous visual density. Technical mastery is evident in the layering: from the acrylic background to the most meticulous graphics that define the work’s character. The contrast of B/W provides visual maturity that balances the playful theme of childhood memories.
Logistics and shipping:
The work is delivered unframed (professional packaging, rolled in a high-strength transport tube). This system guarantees the piece’s integrity during shipping and eases its subsequent mounting on a wooden frame at its destination.
The canvas includes additional painted margins to allow a perfect mounting, giving continuity to the image on the side edges of the frame.
Hand-signed on the lower left edge and on the back. Includes the artist’s certificate of authenticity.
