La Belgique illustrée, by Eugène Van Bemmel, is a two‑volume illustrated French‑language reference published by Bruylant-Christophe & Cie, comprising about 1150 pages with chromo‑lithographic maps, and detailing Belgium’s monuments, landscapes and artworks of the late 19th century; the volumes measure 31.5 x 25 cm, weigh about 6.5 kg, are bound in half‑leather, and are in good condition.

La Belgique illustrée: ses monuments, ses paysages, ses œuvres d’art is a monumental reference work that was published between 1878 and 1882 under the editorship of Eugène Van Bemmel. Published in 2 volumes. The work offers an extensive overview of Belgium in the late 19th century. Illustrated by prominent artists of the time. The work is provided with chromolithographic maps (color maps) of the different Belgian provinces.
The books describe per region the main historical monuments, landscapes and works of art of cities such as Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent and Bruges, but also of smaller towns and the Ardennes.
The work was published by Bruylant-Christophe & Cie in Brussels. Although the first edition appeared around 1880, there are many copies in circulation without an explicit date on the title page.
