Walter Wynn, Maskerade, original oil painting on canvas, 60 × 50 cm (about 1 kg), multi-coloured, Belgium, 1966, still life in postmodernism style, signed in the plate and hand-signed, in good condition.
Description from the seller
This figurative still life by the Belgian artist Walt Wynn combines objects and symbolism in a powerful, modernist composition.
At the center is a white mask with closed eyes and red-accented lips, flanked by a tall bottle, a brown pot with an inscription, round fruits, and stylized leaf shapes.
The depiction subtly references the carnival theme: masking, identity and theatrical stillness.
The mask forms the expressive focal point of the work and contrasts strongly with the crisp, geometrically constructed background planes.
Painted in a modernist style with clear contours and simplified forms.
Warm salmon-pink and earth tones are combined with deep greens and cool gray-blue.
The matte, opaque paint and visible texture give the work a tangible, almost relief-like appearance.
It is a unique and original work, about fifty years old (roughly the 1970s–1980s). Not a reproduction, but an authentic painting from the artist's oeuvre.
Oil on canvas, with expressive and layered paint texture.
The condition is good and in line with age: light, normal signs of aging and use appropriate for a work of around half a century old.
The painting is not new, but it is well cared for.
A characterful and striking artwork that fits particularly well within a modern, artistic or eclectic interior.
