Japanese Lacquer Storage Box with Drawers – Maki-e Mandarin Ducks – Showa Period
This is a traditional Japanese lacquered storage box with two drawers, decorated with elegant maki-e (gold lacquer) motifs.
The exterior is finished in deep black lacquer with refined gold and copper-toned maki-e depicting a pair of mandarin ducks (oshidori) and delicate seasonal plants.
The lid features a beautifully detailed pair of ducks, while the drawers are decorated with flowing grass motifs. The interior of the drawers is finished in natural wood, creating a refined contrast with the glossy exterior.
The box stands on small raised feet and has round brass drawer pulls. The thin red lacquer lines along the edges enhance the overall elegance.
A refined decorative piece suitable for storing tea utensils, small accessories, jewelry, or traditional items.
