Description from the seller
Showa Period Wooden Jubako with Maki-e Landscape Design
This is a beautifully crafted wooden jubako (tiered food box), finished in a rich brown lacquer with an elegant wood grain pattern. The lid features a finely detailed maki-e style landscape design depicting a serene lakeside scene with mountains, pine trees, a traditional pavilion, and small boats on the water. The delicate gold and subtle red accents contrast beautifully against the black background, creating a refined and atmospheric composition.
The interior is finished in vibrant red lacquer, a traditional feature of jubako, enhancing both visual appeal and practicality. The box stands on gently curved feet, giving it a graceful silhouette. Such boxes were traditionally used for serving festive foods, especially during New Year celebrations and special occasions.
The craftsmanship and design suggest a Showa period piece, reflecting both traditional Japanese aesthetics and mid-20th century lacquer techniques. It can be appreciated both as a functional serving box and as a decorative object representing Japanese lacquer artistry.
