About the artist:
Cope2, real name Fernando Carlo, is one of the most iconic figures in the history of New York graffiti. Born in the South Bronx, he began in 1978 and quickly became a major player in the golden age of writing in the 1980s-1990s.
A true living legend, Cope2 embodies the raw DNA of New York graffiti. Coming from the toughest neighborhoods in New York, he has for more than forty years claimed an unbroken street‑artist integrity. His bold lettering, executed without a preliminary sketch, defines an energetic and instinctive style that is instantly recognizable.
A historic member of the Kids Destroy (KD) crew and affiliated with the international 156 All Starz crew, he stands as a global benchmark. In the 1990s, he was one of the most active artists opposing anti-graffiti policies in New York, helping to keep the writing scene alive despite crackdown campaigns.
From the 2000s onward, Cope2 translated his street style to canvas and international galleries. His works have entered major private collections and quickly drew the attention of major brands such as Time Life, Converse, Adidas or Foot Locker, as well as the cinema and video game industries.
He has also collaborated with renowned artists such as Shepard Fairey, RETNA, Kenny Scharf or Mr. Brainwash, confirming his respected status within the international art scene.
Although the street remains his original playground, studio work now occupies a central place in his practice. His canvas works retain the energy, spontaneity and chromatic strength of classic graffiti, while fully fitting into the contemporary art market.
Cope2 thus remains one of the last authentic representatives of the founding generation of New York graffiti, sought after by collectors for his historical significance, underground legitimacy and global influence.
