• Biography

Anca Todrican, born in Romania in 1985, has shown a great passion for drawing and painting since childhood. In 2004, after completing her studies, she moved to Rome where she began an artistic collaboration at the studio of master Fausto Battelli.
In 2018 she held her first solo show at the space dedicated to contemporary art in Campo Boario, Rome; subsequently she has exhibited nationally and internationally, notably in Paris in 2024 at Galerie Thuilleier. In the last five years her works have been purchased by collectors in Germany, France, Hong Kong and Japan.

Anca Todrican opened her own studio in Rome in 2010 and began her artistic career, experimenting with an abstract language with a strongly expressionist vein. The works born from a creative impulse and realized with brush and spatula, privileging acrylic on canvas, are dominated by the energy of gesture and contrasts of color, symbolizing the strength of nature with its constant change, expressed by rapid and intense touches of color on jagged, shifting patches. This research expresses the bond between humans and nature and represents life paths marked by a continual struggle between unstoppable events and the desire for harmony and quiet.

The desire to deepen the construction of visual space and to concentrate the expressiveness of color in a minimalist choice led Anca Todrican to transform her artistic language, and from 2023 she has composed new works starting from a geometric composition with no defined limits but that fuses one color into another, creating large essential shapes founded on a sought balance between visual weights.

White and black dominate, as contrasts of light and dark, giving dimension and strength to the painting, enriched from time to time by a single color surprisingly intense, luminous and full of energy, which creates defined and contrasting spaces.

Each work has its own visual center and expressive center, where optical constructions converge.

A reflection on existence and the need to express oneself; thus, in the great timeless pictorial space of her canvases, the artist represents life, in the need for boundaries and at the same time for fusion of souls, in the desire for harmony and, simultaneously, for expression of her vital energy, and to finally mark her unique history in that solitary and intense gesture.
