Description from the seller
New Series – Contemporary Photomosaics
David Law
Photographer Artist – Creator of contemporary imagery
Multidisciplinary photographer-artist, author and musician, David Law develops work centered on gaze, presence and the perception of the image in urban space. He first came to prominence with a series devoted to storefront mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superimpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave rise to an art book published in 2021. Later intrigued by the distinctive aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he extends this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost lifelike presence, prompting us to question our relationship to illusion and projection.
New Series – Contemporary Photomosaics
Since 2022, David Law has been developing a new body of works based on artistic photomosaics and contemporary digital composition. Each creation is built from a multitude of visual micro-fragments generated using current graphic tools, then carefully selected, structured and recombined by the artist. From a distance, the image appears immediately legible, strong and assertive. Up close, it reveals a dense architecture made of thousands of elements subtly interwoven. This work rests on a precise artistic direction, methodical and rigorous construction, a sought-after balance between fragmentation and unity, and a constant demand for visual quality and decorative impact. Through this series, David Law questions the making of the contemporary image and how a multitude of fragments can give rise to a cohesive and singular work.
Edition & Production
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are made on aluminum with an integrated back mounting. Printed on luminous white vinyl, mounted between two aluminum plates, with a soft UV- and moisture-resistant laminate, guaranteeing excellent durability, great long-term resistance, color stability and a modern, contemporary look.
Background
Since 2014, David Law participates in around twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the official photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Alongside his visual work, he develops authorial work as a writer and musician, including 3 novels, 1 collection of short stories, 1 graphic novel, 1 photo book, and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he is currently performing with the band FRENZY.
