Description from the seller
New Series – Contemporary Photomosaics
David Law
Photographer-Artist – Creator of Contemporary Images
A multidisciplinary photographer, author and musician, David Law develops work focused on gaze, presence and the perception of the image in urban space. He first became known for a series dedicated to shop-window mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superimpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Later fascinated by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he extends this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost living presence, challenging our relation to illusion and projection.
New Series – Contemporary Photomosaics
Since 2022, David Law has been developing a new body of works based on artistic photomosaic and contemporary digital composition. Each creation is built from a multitude of micro-visual fragments generated using current graphic tools, then carefully selected, structured and recomposed by the artist. From a distance, the image appears immediately legible, strong and assertive. Up close, it reveals a dense architecture made of thousands of elements subtly interwoven. This work rests on a precise artistic direction, a methodical and rigorous construction, a sought balance between fragmentation and unity, and a constant demand for visual quality and decorative impact. Through this series, David Law questions the making of the contemporary image and how a multitude of fragments can give rise to a coherent and unique artwork.
Edition & Production
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies plus 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are produced on aluminum with a built-in rear mounting. Printed on luminescent white vinyl, mounted between two aluminum panels, with soft UV- and humidity-resistant lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, long-term stability of colors, and a modern, contemporary look.
Background
Since 2014, David Law has taken part in about twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also a resident photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. In parallel with his visual activity, he develops authorial and musician work including 3 novels, 1 collection of short stories, 1 graphic novel, 1 photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the band FRENZY.
