Pair of silver-plated metal dragées dishes, manufactured by Elkington & Co, Birmingham, England.
Production period 1842–1864, corresponding to the use of the E & Co mark accompanied by the crown symbol, characteristic of the early decades of Elkington.

The bodies are richly engraved with a dolphin motif, a traditional maritime symbol associated with prosperity and travel, highly prized in Victorian England, and bearing the motto "MEDIIS TRANQUILLIS IN UNIS". The dragées rest on a fluted foot and are fitted with domed covers with decorative thumb grips, with matching side handles.

Stamps (on the base): E & Co (Elkington & Co), Crown, Letters M and N (internal manufacturing codes, not date letters)

Silvering in very good condition.
