Description from the seller

Approximately 300 years old silver repousé teapot, made at the beginning of the 18th century, dated 1737, decorated with acanthus leaf motifs.

Goldsmith from Amsterdam: Reinier Brandt (born 1707 and active in Amsterdam 1730-1780)

Master mark three Andrew crosses derived from the city coat of arms
Fineness mark (Holland Lion).934/1000 silver

Typical features of 18th-century silver teapots:
- bulbous (ribbed) belly, repousé decoration with foliate motifs under the rim, curved spout, rattan-wrapped handle (for heat), lid with a chain so it does not come off

This silver teapot has always stood in a display cabinet and is in excellent condition
Total gross weight: 313 g.

Early Amsterdam teapots from the 1730s are quite rare because:
1) tea culture was still relatively new at the time
2) many pots were later melted down
3) the early Rococo transitional type is relatively scarce.
