Description from the seller
New Series – Contemporary Photomosaics
David Law
Photographer Artist – Creator of Contemporary Images
Multidisciplinary visual artist, author and musician, David Law develops work centered on gaze, presence and the perception of the image in urban space. He first made a name for himself with a series devoted to window mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave rise to an art book published in 2021. Intrigued by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he continues this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost living presence, questioning our relationship to illusion and projection.
New Series – Contemporary Photomosaics
Since 2022, David Law has been developing a new corpus of works based on artistic photomosaics and contemporary digital composition. Each creation is built from a multitude of micro visual fragments generated using current graphic tools, then selected, structured and recomposed meticulously by the artist. From afar, the image appears immediately legible, bold and assertive. Up close, it reveals a dense architecture composed of thousands of subtly interwoven elements. This work rests on a precise artistic direction, a methodical and rigorous construction, a balance sought between fragmentation and unity, and a constant demand for visual quality and decorative impact. Through this series, David Law questions the making of the contemporary image and how a multitude of fragments can give rise to a coherent and singular work.
Edition & Manufacture
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are produced on aluminum with a back-hung mounting. Printing on bright white vinyl, affixed between two aluminum plates, with UV- and humidity-resistant soft laminate, guaranteeing excellent durability, long-term color stability and a modern, contemporary appearance.
Background
Since 2014, David Law participates in around twenty Contemporary Art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the official photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Parallel to his visual work, he develops a writer-artist and musician practice including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a comic book, a photography book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he is currently performing with the group FRENZY.
