Protozoa Interpenetration is a 2016 Ukrainian original surrealist oil painting on cardboard by Valery Kot, measuring 40 × 50 cm and signed by the artist.
Description from the seller
A compelling surrealist composition by Ukrainian artist Valeriy Kot, titled Protozoa Interpenetration (2016). Executed in oil on cardboard, the work measures 40 × 50 cm and is signed and inscribed by the artist on the reverse:
“Kot Valeriy, 2016, Protozoa Interpenetration, Kyiv, Ukraine.”
The painting presents a layered psychological landscape where human figures, organic forms, and symbolic architecture merge into a single dreamlike vision. Two mirrored faces appear suspended in a moment of silent dialogue, surrounded by spiral structures reminiscent of natural growth and transformation. Above them, small birds move through an architectural space that feels both ancient and imaginary, adding a sense of movement and quiet tension.
Kot’s architectural background is evident in the careful construction of space and structure. His compositions often combine monumental forms with intimate human gestures, creating a visual language where philosophy, mythology, and subconscious imagery coexist. The warm tonal palette and sculptural treatment of the figures give the painting a timeless quality, echoing classical traditions while remaining unmistakably surreal.
Active in the arts since the late 1970s, Kot has developed a distinctive surrealist style that blends narrative symbolism with meticulous technique. His works explore the intersection of dream and reality, inviting viewers to interpret layered meanings within the imagery.
About the Artist:
Valeriy Kot (Ukraine, 1950) studied architecture and worked in architectural studios in Kyiv before dedicating himself fully to painting in 1985. Since the mid-1980s his work has been exhibited regularly in Ukraine and internationally, including exhibitions in Berlin and Belgium. Kot’s paintings are known for their imaginative structures, philosophical undertones, and dreamlike compositions that merge natural, historical, and symbolic elements.
