Description from the seller
Qur'an - Herat - Timurid - AD1460. This manuscript from a Qur'an scribed shortly after Shah Rukh’s reign at a time of great political turmoil. It was relatively small for ease of carriage, thus was most likely for private use. Sadly the Qur'an had been badly damaged with most of the manuscript beyond repair. We have done what we can to rescue some of the Holy scripture.
The folio contains scripture from the Medinian chapter 2 Al-Baqarah (The Cow), v.270-273. These verses focus on the rules, etiquette, and spiritual rewards of charity (Sadaqah) and voluntary spending in the way of Allah. They highlight the importance of sincerity, the preference for secret giving, and the identification of the most deserving recipients. Whether charity is given openly or secretly, or if it is a promised vow (nadhr), God is fully aware of it and the intention behind it. It assures believers that no act of kindness goes unnoticed, while warning that those who act with wrong intentions or fail to fulfil their obligations (the unjust/wrongdoers) will have no one to save them from God’s punishment.
The folio has evenly spaced and elegant Naskhi script in black ink containing 14 lines of scripture broken. Free-hand 'aya' in a simple gold spiral mark out the verses. A single marginals (Juz) in blue, marks the 270th verse of the Chapter. Diacritical advisory script marks in red providing the reader with devotional guidance. The folios is fully framed in gold and blue lines.
There is devotional use through page turning lower right, but otherwise this is a good clean copy and very well preserved for its age dating from around the time of the fall of Constantinople to Islam in 1453.
Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing.
Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
