Description from the seller
A quality miniature Quranic manuscript from Persia dated 1580. The folio contains a single Surah chapter headings low down the folio together with an elaborate marginal marking the beginning of a new chapter.
The folio contains scripture from the final verses (v.17-20) of the Meccan Surah 73 Al-Muzzammil (The Wrapped One), together with the header and first four (4) verses of chapter 74 (Al-Muddaththir (The One Covered Up). The final verses of chapter 73 serve as a concluding, reassuring message that highlights the severity of the Day of Judgment, provides a warning to disbelievers based on historical examples, and ultimately alleviates the strictness of the initially commanded nightly prayers for the believers. The first four verses of chapter 74 mark the beginning of Prophet Muhammad's open ministry, commanding him to stop resting, arise, and warn humanity, while emphasizing strict monotheism and spiritual/physical purity. These verses address him as "The Cloaked One" following his initial, fearful experience receiving revelation.
Then script is a fine naskh in black ink, separated by red Persian interlinear nasta'liq commentary and translation. Small gold roundel 'aya' mark out the verses - best seen when held to the light. The whole is framed in a thick gold line. There is a complex marginal on the lower left containing learned commentary.
PLEASE NOTE. Shipping costs are not solely the cost of the delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the delivery agent for processing.
Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
