Louis Dourand's Giclée Unfree, edition x/100 from 2020+, measuring 60 by 42 cm, hand-signed with certificate of authenticity, in excellent condition, produced in Italy and sold by Galleria.
Description from the seller
Unfree portrays the Statue of Liberty in an unprecedented and disarming pose: hands cover the face, as in a gesture of weeping or shame. A universal symbol of hope, welcome, and rights, the figure here folds in on itself, powerless before a present that contradicts the values it embodies. The work is a visual reflection on the concept of freedom denied, manipulated, or betrayed. The crown remains intact, but it is now a weight rather than a sign of power. Unfree is a silent cry, a broken icon that invites looking inward and questioning the true meaning of the word “liberty” today.
This new work stems from the creativity of French artist Louis Dourand, known for having collaborated in the past with Santicri, in an artistic dialogue that managed to blend different visual languages into a shared expressive vision. Santicri — with whom Louis Dourand has collaborated on several occasions — is one of the most established contemporary artists on the international stage.
He has exhibited his works in prestigious contexts such as Palazzo Grillo in Genoa in 2022 and the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York in 2023.
In 2024 he was recognized among Artmayeur’s Best-Selling Artists and entered the top 3 of the most sought-after artists on Catawiki, alongside figures such as Kaws and Banksy.
