Description from the seller
Title: “Pietá I” (2014)
Original, unique work. Mixed media (acrylic, marker, ink) on canvas.
Format: 97 x 73 cm.
Year: 2014.
In "Pietá I", Rafa López reinterprets one of the most moving and recurrent themes in the history of universal art: piety. Through his contemporary language, the artist strips the scene of its liturgical rigidity to transform it into an explosion of fragmented feelings, where pain and tenderness manifest through a choreography of bold forms.
Artwork analysis: The composition is a fundamental piece of his Pop Surrealist and Neo-Expressionist vein. In this canvas, the classical structure of the "Pietà" undergoes a visual metamorphosis: the figures intertwine in an embrace that transcends figuration to become symbolic. It is a work of great emotional balance, where the tragedy of the theme is contrasted by chromatic vitality and the freedom of the stroke.
Technically, the work stands out for its cleanliness and linear power. By not using spray, the piece gains a more direct and graphic definition. The marker and ink become the essential drawing tools to structure the composition, while acrylic provides the color masses and the gestural energy that gives the surface an organic vibration. The absence of greasy elements allows a very crisp layering, highlighting the freshness of every brushstroke.
Logistics and shipping: The work is delivered unframed (professional packaging, rolled in a high-resistance transit tube). This method is the safest standard for international shipping, guaranteeing the painting arrives in perfect condition. Your local framer will be able to mount it easily on a custom wooden stretcher.
The canvas features additional painted margins that allow the image to continue smoothly along the sides of the stretcher after installation, ensuring a contemporary and high-quality finish.
Hand-signed on the lower left edge and on the back. Includes the artist’s certificate of authenticity.
