The works arise from an artisanal and experimental process that makes each canvas unique. The surface is carefully prepared and enriched with natural papers selected and textural insertions, creating an irregular, three-dimensional base rich in texture that enhances the structure of the canvas. Subsequently this surface is worked in an uneven manner using mixed media, in which watercolor pencils play a central role, creating layers, transparencies and contrasts in dialogue with the material beneath. Each work reflects a balance between technical control and material spontaneity, marking the artist's transition from a consolidated digital practice to a more tactile, artisanal, and material approach.
Giulia Piras began her studies at the Faculty of Biological Sciences due to her interest in naturalist themes. However, she chose to shift toward the Academy of Fine Arts, where she had the opportunity to deepen and practice her passion for scientific illustration. She continues her studies specializing in Illustration at the ISIA of Urbino. Today she lives in the Marche countryside, in Italy, surrounded by the Apennines, oak woods and meadows in bloom. She collaborates with publishing houses, magazines, companies and advertising agencies. She was selected for the Renner Prize for Contemporary Art. In 2021 she won the Digital Inclusion competition organized by Posterheroes. In 2025 she was selected for the Annual of Image Authors and for the Bologna Ragazzi Award (BRAW) Amazing Bookshelf.
Possible color differences may depend on lighting conditions, monitor settings or the camera used. The true tones of the colors may therefore vary slightly from those displayed on screen.
Some images are photomontages created for purely illustrative purposes. The proportions and dimensions shown may not precisely reflect the actual size of the work.
