Jose Manuel Mayo Peña, Estructura en Combustión, oil on canvas, 98 × 61 cm, 2025, original edition, hand-signed, Spain.
Description from the seller
JOSE MANUEL MAYO PEÑA
- Born in Las Tunas, Las Tunas Province, Cuba, (1976)
- He graduated in 1997 with a specialization in drawing and painting at the Professional School of Visual Arts in Las Tunas.
In Estructura en Combustión, José Manuel Mayo Peña develops an intensely visual abstract composition, executed in oil on canvas. The work articulates a dynamic tension between gesture, matter, and color, creating a balance between spontaneity and conscious construction.
The palette, dominated by incendiary reds, vibrant oranges, and deep black contrasts, is crossed by white and yellow planes that introduce breath and compositional direction. The use of splashes, glazes, and brush drags reveals a free yet structured pictorial practice, where each layer dialogues with the previous one.
The clear horizontal plane crossing the surface acts as a stabilizing axis against the organic movement of the background, generating an architectural reading within the apparent gestural chaos. This duality between impulse and control is one of the main values of the piece.
The work sits within the language of contemporary gestural abstraction, with implicit references to action painting and modern material painting, yet maintaining a distinctive identity defined by its chromatic vibrancy.
Ideal for collectors of abstract art, contemporary interiors, and spaces seeking a protagonist piece with great visual energy. Its chromatic impact and balanced composition make it a highly competitive work in an auction context.
