Ayrton Senna da Silva (São Paulo, March 21, 1960 – Bologna, May 1, 1994) was a highly successful Brazilian racing driver who, over a span of ten seasons, became three-time Formula 1 World Champion. He started 161 races, secured pole position 65 times, and won 41 times.
Ayrton Senna began his racing career at the age of four in karting. After competing in Formula Ford 1600 and 2000 classes, he won the British F3 in 1983 ahead of Martin Brundle.
He died as a result of a crash in the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix. His death caused a great stir in the F1 community and led to a whole range of safety measures.
