Ayrton Senna da Silva (São Paulo, March 21, 1960 – Bologna, May 1, 1994) was a highly successful Brazilian racing driver who, over a span of ten seasons, became three-time Formula 1 World Champion. He started in 161 races, earning pole position 65 times and winning 41 times.
Ayrton Senna began his racing career at the age of four in karting. After competing in Formula Ford 1600 and the 2000 class, he won the British F3 in 1983 over Martin Brundle.
He died as a result of a crash in the San Marino Grand Prix in 1994. His death caused a great stir in the F1 world and led to a whole series of safety measures.
