The year 1882 is marked by major events: the Jules Ferry law making primary education compulsory, the Triple Alliance between Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy, the bombardment of Alexandria by the British fleet in Egypt, the death of the Italian revolutionary Giuseppe Garibaldi, and the foundation of the Standard Oil Trust in the United States.
The work contains numerous illustrations, some in double-page spreads, caricatures, as well as fold-out panoramas (up to 1 meter long).
