Hand-built guinomi (sake cup) in white glaze ceramic from Japan, 8 cm high, 5 cm wide, 5 cm deep, weighing 111 g, dated 1900–2000, in good condition with no chips or cracks, by an unidentified contemporary Japanese artist, a one-of-a-kind piece.
Description from the seller
Item Description:
A hand-built guinomi (sake cup) in white glaze (hakuji), crafted by an unidentified Japanese ceramic artist.
This cup bears all the hallmarks of an individual artist's hand — the intentionally irregular cylindrical silhouette, the thick and uneven application of matte white glaze, and the subtle creases and undulations across the body all speak to a singular, considered act of making.
Warm terracotta tones emerge naturally at the unglazed foot ring, creating a beautiful contrast against the cool white glaze above.
The interior reveals a soft celadon-tinged white, ideal for showcasing the clarity of fine sake or whisky.
Each mark on this cup is unrepeatable — a quiet testament to the individuality of hand-crafted Japanese ceramics.
A refined piece for collectors who value authenticity and the beauty of wabi aesthetics.
