Malick Sidibé (1935–2016) - Vintage Unique - Mes soeurs et moi

Born in 1936 in Soloba, Mali. Died in Bamako in April 2016. From Malick Sidibé’s work one first knows his documentary photographs, taken at surprise parties organized by young people fond of music and freedom as the country prepared for independence.
In 1962, he opened the “Studio Malick” in Bamako. The studio portrait would constitute the major part of his work. People come from all over to have their portrait taken by the eye of Bamako… Noticed at the early Bamako Photographic Encounters, he was exhibited at the Fondation Cartier in Paris and then in major galleries and museums around the world. He received the Hasselblad Award in 2003 and then the Golden Lion in 2007.
