Description from the seller
Rare Double Sovereign Case (Sovereign Case) Art Nouveau - Maison Murat (Paris) - Model Registered - France, circa 1900
Description
Presentation:
An exceptional example of a double sovereign case (Sovereign & Half Sovereign Case) from the Art Nouveau period, made by the prestigious Maison Murat of Paris. This object, bean-shaped ellipsoid, represents the pinnacle of functional elegance of the Belle Époque. Unlike common single models, this specimen features two distinct compartments, designed to house respectively the Gold Sovereign (full Sovereign) and the Half Sovereign.
Design and Manufacture:
Decoration: The lid is finely repoussé with a wild rose motif in full Liberty style, with sharp details and a strong visual impact.
Stamps and Marks: Inside there is the inscription "DÉPOSÉ" (Registered Model). On the crown of opening is clearly visible the factory mark of Charles Murat: a lozenge (diamond) containing the initials C M separated by the symbol of a chalice. There are additional French guarantee marks, partially worn by time but consistent with production in high-end argentum noble metal.
Mechanical Conditions:
Springs: Both internal spring mechanisms are perfectly functioning and maintain the excellent original tension.
Closure: The snap closure is solid and precise. The suspension ring is intact and ready to be attached to a pocket chain (Albert chain)
