Persephone, a contemporary steel sculpture by Javi Villarroel Seoane, 2025, unique edition, black and silver finish, signed by hand, measuring 69 cm high by 38 cm wide and 18 cm deep, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Inspired by Greek mythology, Persephone is made up of hundreds of metallic fragments interlaced with surgical precision. Its anatomy, human-sized, is crafted from a labyrinthine weave.
Light passes through its interior, multiplying its presence, revealing stored power emanating from the core of the void. Each piece fits with the next in a silent choreography of shapes.
The result is a figure that is purely ethereal, held in a delicate balance between the solidity of material and the lightness of the immaterial.
The complexity of its design requires exceptional mastery at every stage of production. Not only is it a work of art, but also a manifestation of a commitment to excellence.
A creation for those who value the singularity born from the skilled hand of the artist.
Technical data:
Material: Steel
Finish: Black paint and polished
Corrosion resistance: Yes
Dimensions: 70x38x18 (human-scale proportions)
More than steel, more than art:
Javi Villarroel Seoane is a contemporary sculptor who turns his ideas into a living testament to creativity. From his studio in Bilbao, Spain, he develops sculptures with metal—a material he masters with skill, allowing him to explore diverse artistic directions.
His career includes numerous national exhibitions, and his pieces are part of collections spread across several European countries, the United Kingdom and Asia, reflecting the international reach of his work.
His solid training and two decades of experience underpin the technical quality of his sculptures. He holds degrees in welding instruction, mechanical manufacturing design, industrial boilermaking, artistic forging, sculpture, and hot-carving sculpture. His constant drive to improve led him to become a diving welder, an experience that broadened his knowledge from a unique and highly specialized perspective.
Alongside his creative work, Javi has contributed significantly to professional training in his field. He has taught hundreds of welders through programs of the Basque Government, among others, and has taught artistic welding courses, sharing his vision, technique, and his deep respect and love for the craft and metal.
In addition to being recognized as a distinguished artist of the Basque Country, in 2025 the Bilbao City Council acknowledged his career and entrepreneurial spirit by awarding him an Entrepreneurship Prize, an honor that values his commitment to art and his contribution to the city’s cultural and educational landscape. His work appears in the second volume of La escultura vasca contemporánea, recently published.
With a steadfast vocation and ongoing artistic inquiry, Javi continues shaping a singular path that crosses borders and establishes him as an essential figure in contemporary metalworking art.
