Old large polychrome wooden sculpture – Religious figure, Apostle – 20th century (approx.)
Important religious sculpture made of carved and polychromed wood, representing St. Peter.
The sculpture shows a bearded male figure, with an intense expression and a deep gaze, holding a book in one hand — symbol of the Gospel or Scriptures — while the other hand is given in a blessing or teaching gesture.
The piece retains remnants of its original polychromy in dark, reddish and ochre tones, with natural wear from the passage of time that adds authenticity and a very attractive patina. The carving features expressive manual work, especially visible in the treatment of the face, beard and folds of the mantle.
Due to its stylistic and technical characteristics, it can probably be placed in the 20th century (approximate attribution).
Condition
Clear signs of age.
General wear of the polychromy.
Presence of holes due to old woodworm.
Some areas show material loss and surface erosion.
Structurally stable.
