Description of the work
Abrazamé (2025) is a work - Art box, named as such by Jesús Poveda around the symbolic image, the recycling of the support in the material used, the poetics of the object, and the construction of mental landscapes from a surrealist and metaphysical perspective. The work, measuring 37 x 49 cm, presents itself as an autonomous pictorial object, where formal containment and visual synthesis activate a silent and reflective reading.
The composition is articulated from an essential organic form — the cactus — which stops functioning as a naturalistic motif to become a sign. Suspended in a neutral space, with no explicit temporal or contextual references, the vegetal element transforms into a metaphorical body, associated with ideas of resilience, permanence, and adaptation. The landscape disappears as a setting and folds back into a mental dimension, close to dreamlike states and the time-stopped quality typical of the metaphysical tradition.
The art box format reinforces the object's condition of the work, underscoring its physical presence and its direct relationship with architectural space. The chromatic economy, based on soft and nuanced tones, contributes to an atmosphere of calm and estrangement, where the image asserts itself from the minimum and the essential. This piece is part of the Cactus series, a body of work in which the artist refines figuration to the limit of the symbol, proposing a painting that sits between what is visible and what is thought.
