Description from the seller
Antique ivory sculpture – Standing nude woman – Neoclassical – Europe – 19th century
Very refined antique ivory sculpture depicting a standing nude woman, executed in a restrained neoclassical style. The figure is lightly bent forward and partly covers her pubic area with a loose falling cloth, inspired by classical examples from antiquity (Venus Pudica-type).
The sculpture is fully carved in the round from solid ivory and displays high craftsmanship, with harmonious proportions, carefully worked anatomy and a serene, downward-facing facial expression. The hair is classically styled and updo. The sculpture stands on a matching ivory plinth pedestal, also made of ivory.
Provenance and dating
France-Italy, second half of the 19th century (ca. 1860–1890).
The sculpture is in very good condition with normal signs of aging. The pedestal has an old vertical crack line at the back of the sculpture.
Supplied with expert statement and EU CITES certificate.
ATTENTION, we ship exclusively to EU countries! Please inquire with questions before placing a bid.
