Silvio Formichetti is an Italian painter, one of the leading figures of contemporary Italian informal painting. He began his artistic career with portraits of female nudes and Abruzzo landscapes, then evolved, from the 1990s, toward gestural abstraction and informality. A fundamental influence on his development is American Action Painting (particularly Jackson Pollock) and figures such as Afro Basaldella, Emilio Vedova, Gianni Dova, and Hans Hartung. Formichetti is known for his energetic use of color, intense painterly gesture, and a visual language that expresses deep and dynamic moods.
