Description from the seller

An exquisite masterpiece of 19th-century French engineering. This F. Jonté Tailboard Camera (c. 1880) represents the pinnacle of Victorian photographic luxury. Crafted from French-polished walnut with shimmering, original lacquered brass fittings, this 5x7 inch camera is a rare survivor from the golden age of the Parisian studios at 124-126 Rue LaFayette.

The camera is distinguished by its original Mother of Pearl maker’s plaque and features the "Breveté S.G.D.G." patent mark. It has been meticulously cared for, retaining its rich wood glow and precision-engineered mechanical movements.

This is a complete professional archive, including the highly sought-after F. Jonté Rapid Rectilinear lens, four matching plate holders, a spare lens board, and the original dark focusing hood. The entire set is housed in its authentic, heavy-duty canvas carry case.
