Description from the seller

Photo by René Jacques, a leading figure in postwar French photography, René-Jacques (born René Giton, 1908-2003) began his career in the 1930s. Very quickly, he embraced the many facets of photography, becoming at different times a reporter for L'Intransigeant, an illustrator for Éditions Grasset, or an industrial photographer for Renault. A wanderer through the streets of a deserted Paris, following in the footsteps of writers Francis Carco and Léon-Paul Fargue, he was also a stills photographer for filmmakers René Lucot, Georg Wilhelm Pabst, and Jean Grémillon. Unsigned baryte print.
